What is MessyPoly primarily for?
MessyPoly finishes and prepares oversized, AI-generated, scanned, sculpted, or otherwise unfinished 3D assets. Its central feature is quality-aware optimization: generating and testing multiple reductions to find the smallest visually faithful result, then preparing that result for its destination.
Does MessyPoly work with models generated elsewhere?
Yes. Bring compatible models from Meshy, Tripo, Blender, photogrammetry tools, scanners, marketplaces, or other 3D software. Image generation is an optional way to create a starting asset when you don't already have one.
How does MessyPoly decide when to stop reducing polygons?
It builds a ladder of progressively lighter candidates, renders each one from multiple angles, and compares them with your source. When further reduction begins to cause meaningful visual loss, it stops and selects the smallest candidate before that quality cliff.
Can every model be dramatically reduced?
No. Some models are already efficient, and others contain thin features, delicate silhouettes, or geometry-dependent detail that can't be aggressively reduced safely. MessyPoly prioritizes a trustworthy result over an impressive but misleading reduction percentage.
What happens when no safe optimization is found?
MessyPoly selects a more conservative candidate when aggressive reduction would cause meaningful visual loss. When no candidate passes its visual checks at all, the job fails with a clear outcome and your credits are refunded automatically — it will not knowingly ship a heavily damaged model just to report a larger reduction.
What file formats can I upload and export?
Upload .glb (Draco-compressed included), .obj, .stl, or .fbx — up to 100MB and 5,000,000 triangles. Results always download as .glb; depending on the result you can also export OBJ with baked textures, STL, FBX, 3MF, USDZ, a turntable GIF, or a texture-only ZIP, and destination presets pick the right format for you.
What's the difference between optimization and Quad Retopo?
Optimization reduces unnecessary complexity while preserving visual appearance. Quad Retopo rebuilds the surface as a new quad-dominant mesh — up to 50,000 quads — for editing, sculpting, subdivision, and other topology-sensitive workflows. It downloads as an OBJ that preserves the quad topology, alongside a triangulated GLB preview, and costs 15 credits.
Is every model suitable for rigging or print preparation?
No. Automatic rigging is limited to validated upright humanoid models with clear body structure — quadrupeds and unusual body plans are rejected before binding, and binding a rig or adding motion each cost 1 credit. Print preparation repairs supported geometry issues and exports standard STL, but no automated system can guarantee every printer, material, and slicer — review the final file in your slicer.
Do failed jobs consume credits?
No. Jobs that fail, get rejected at the preflight check, are canceled, or expire are automatically refunded to your monthly credits or pack balance.
